  2. @cunpau says:

Predestination has to be one of the dumbest, if not completely insane and uninteresting pile of garbage I’ve ever suffered through

  3. Childhoods End doesn't count I guess, because it was done as a 3 part mini -series on SciFi.

  4. "Moon" was a fantastic movie. Theres actually a sequel…ish. "Mute".

  5. Primer is awesome

  6. @JoDdy420- says:

I have the movie Upgrade on DVD, it is a great movie! Also, I can't believe the movie Alita: Battle Angel wasn't included on this list. It also is a great movie

  7. The Fontain's music is great!

  8. How about John Dies at the End?

  9. @92Jaghk says:

Bro where've you been? I think I got unsubscribed.

  10. @cbobgo1 says:

    Thanks for the recommendations

  11. Fountain- absolute masterpiece, every time I watch this one again I see new things just like Lost Highway

  12. I'm sorry, you nominated Sunshine.

    Seriously.

    You nominated Sunshine FFS!!???

Along with The Core and Snowpiercer, you have picked one of the three absolutely and most utterly imbecilic Sci-Fi premises ever to have crowded out some other movie from being made. The entire basic PREMISE of these three films shows the writer and creator and pretty much everyone else involved with it who wasn't just in it for the #$%$#% paycheck alone had NO CONCEPT OF ACTUAL PHYSICS — and face itpeople who don't grasp Bonehead ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Physics have ZERO business having anything to do with an SF film beyond working for the caterer

Sunshine's basic premise is beyond retarded. It is flat out insanely incompetent to even suggest it as a possibility in the very first place. If humans are EVER capable of doing what this movies premise requires, it will not be in the next 10 centuries

Each of these three films got funded in the place of the a Sharknado sequel. They are, therefore, a waste of celluloid, bits, whatever it takes to transfer them to your viewing device. As horrific as any Sharknado movie is/was/will be, it is, at least, NOT trying to be taken seriously. The creators of THOSE movies realize it's absurd, and it's a JOKE as a result.

You can make improbable SF movies, but you either need to be really good with creating your premise, or you need to take it as a comedy and realize your premise is ridiculous and not serious. These people failed that basic comprehension on every possible level.

    As have you.

For choosing "Sunshine" for this list, I give you the Billy Madison award:
Mr. Van Dam, what you've just picked is one of the most insanely idiotic choices I have ever heard of. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this channel is now dumber for having listened to your list. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

  13. That 'Time Lapse' 2014 isn't on this list is inexcusable.

  14. DREDD was awesome!! Karl Urban is a big fan of the original comic, and it shows. The story and the whole cast are great, too. Cool music and cinematography/unique FX, also.

  15. @pendorran says:

'Idiocracy' rips off the premise of the 1951 story 'The Marching Morons' by C.M. Kornbluth with ZERO credit or attribution. Harlan Ellison successfully sued when 'The Terminator' did that to him, but Kornbluth died tragically young so fuck him, I guess.

  16. @pendorran says:

'Predestination' is interesting but ridiculously convoluted. And Sarah Snook isn't remotely believable as a man.

  17. You are dead right about Sunshine. Grossly underrated. Under the Skin is an absolute masterpiece.

  18. @crhkrebs says:

As a Canadian, I try to be supportive of Canadian Sci-Fi movies. But I cannot understand the appeal of Turbo Kid. A B movie at best. I would prefer something like Pontypool. But I totally agree that Primer and Timecrimes are better time travel movies than Predestination.

  19. @ClayRavin says:

This is a strange list of pseudo-scifi that's mostly style over substance. Sunshine is a failed mishmash/rehash of tropes, the Fountain is good but actually a fantasy movie, Under The Skin is ok but completely misses the point of the book it's based on. Oh yeah, and Idiocracy is actually a documentary.

  20. @pvw732 says:

Mike Judge: "I am not a prophet, I was off by 490 years"

  21. @TLMuse says:

Thumbs-up for a great list. But though I absolutely loved most of "Sunshine" (Rose Byrne's acting is a particular standout), the final act is so ludicrous and so inconsistent with the rest of the movie that it totally ruined the movie for me. I'm dumbfounded that you could rate it as one of the greatest scifi movies. This movie badly needed a better script editor, or maybe just someone to keep the director on track.

  22. Primer makes going to rent a truck feel exciting. It and Dredd are two of my most favorite movies. Enemy Territory is good if you like those "die hardy" trapped in a building movies.

  23. @emjizone says:

Most of what is called "science-fiction" today is not science fiction and is just good non-medieval fantasy.

  24. @emjizone says:

2:15 It's the story of a bunch of film makers who are extremely talented, who manage to make the most beautiful film of the century, … and yet decide to use this talent to completely depress the audience rather than make it happy.

  25. Great list! There's one movie I would definitely add to this list: Prospect (2018) with Pedro Pascal and Sophie Thatcher. Absolute gem of a sci-fi movie. Very unique atmosphere, great cinematography, script and actor performances.

  26. I thought Code 8 on Netflix was a very underrated film from canada and they now have a sequel out

  27. @zerettino says:

I was not impressed by "Sunshine", but I totally agree on "Timecrimes".

  28. @tamas_k says:

    Don't forget "Arrival". Really awesome.

  29. I loved Source Code!

  30. Under the Skin was ok, the book it's based on was better.

  31. @we8463 says:

    Upgrade is absolutely fantastic!

  32. @jamesg872 says:

I really enjoyed Upgrade, Source Code, and Oblivion from recent memory.

  33. A great underrated Sci-Fi film is Brainstorm (1983), starring Christopher Walken and Natalie Wood. The whole plot is based on one invention: A machine like a Video Tape Recorder, which can record complete human experience and allow others to play back another person's experience. The film explores the consequences of the invention.

  34. @NicleT says:

The soundtrack of Under the skin is also an absolute masterpiece.

  35. Moon is great i love Moon!!

  36. @intombato says:

Great list. I'm missing a couple that I'll definitely go look for…

  37. @ig2d says:

I found Dredd just toooo violent

  38. @ig2d says:

moon and oblivion are essentially the same plot

  39. Karl Urban cared more about the source material for Dredd that he never took the helmet off to make it about him. Sylvester Stallone went eithout the helmet in the majority of his movie Judge Dredd, and made it all about him.

  40. @faysoufox says:

I love predestination, I watch it like once a year

  41. Hair cut is way too young and awful for that grey beard. No matter, that haircut is desperate reminiscent of Joni fLakes or the whoremaster sixty nine hundred series with Space KYrk’Pees mutations ryKRE. ST: STDisiaster

  42. @ST-ek6lf says:

    Predestination f gay mocie

  43. I don’t know if this movie is underrated but I thought it was really good and it has some tinges of time travel, The Lake House w/ Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves.

  44. Great list. I can't let The Fountain get mentioned without a plug for the musical score.

  45. Highyl recommend Coherence (2013) for a relatively low budget head spin similar to Time Crimes (which I also adore by the way, great pick here).

  46. The Fountain was a fabulous film. Likewise, Sunshine and Moon.

  47. Since 2001 or since _2001_?

  48. Idiocracy is prophetic.

  49. Sunshine was cringy, nearly walked out when I saw it at the cinema. Dread was a let down, could have been so much better.

    The Spanish movie is awesome.

  50. The Fountain is my favorite movie of all time.

  51. I'm missing "Equilibrium", it deserves way more attention. It's basically a modernized and more action packed version of Fahrenheit 451.

  52. @V-RADIO says:

6:57 someone should seriously be in prison for how underrated Dreadd is.

  53. Predestination: The Future of Incest.

  54. “Predestination” is an adaptation of Heinlein’s “All You Zombies”. A book I was very familiar with.
When I first saw the movie on TV I didn’t know that. Obviously I soon realised. I was so surprised because I thought that no one could make a good movie of this book.
They did an awesome job. Still one of my favourite movies.

  55. Anything with Audrey Plaza in is Top Shelf

  56. Great list!!

  57. good stuff! Agree with the ones I've seen and can't wait to watch the ones I have not!

  58. Thematically, Upgrade was great. I think it could've been better than it was but still really enjoyed it

  59. Primer is need to watch at least twice maybe three times to enjoy it's theme must have made a fortune also the fountain I watched that baked and was an amazing first watch highly recommended doing same it's a eye opener

  60. Great picks. Love them all. Especially the first 3. But haven’t seen timecrimes or under the skin yet. Will check them out.

  61. @eunomiac says:

How is PANDORUM not on this list?! Totally unwatchable! Err, the video, not PANDORUM! PANDORUM is a great movie! 😉

  62. @Timlagor says:

Dredd is fantastic. We were absolutely expecting it to be good once we saw the trailer.

Primer is the movie I couldn't remember the name of when I wanted to recommend it

  63. @Timlagor says:

Sunshine wasn't overlooked -it's got an absurd premise

  64. @agl1138 says:

I love The Fountain. I don't understand how it ended up just as a cult film. Hugh Jackman should have got an Oscar.

  65. Ideocracy and upgrade are favored

  66. Sunshine and The Fountain are definitely in my top 5 sci fi movies of all time.

  67. @uzanto98 says:

My "guilty pleasure" is time travel movies, so I've definitely watched the four you listed. I particularly love indie time travel movies. For anyone who loves them, Predestination, Safety Not Guaranteed, Primer and Timecrimes are on my must-watch list. Some others I recommend:

    Synchronicity
Frequency – Not exactly time travel, but communication across time
See You Yesterday – Just suspend your disbelief that a high school student could build a working time machine
Time Lapse – Not actual time travel, but communication across time
The History of Time Travel – A "documentary" about time travel.
Time Trap – Even the characters don't know what's happening and have to solve the mystery as they live through it.
    Paradox
Run Lola Run – Time loop without a time machine.
11 Minutes – Not the best movie on my list, but an interesting concept because of a fixed duration on this time spent in the past on each trip.
Counter Clockwise – Not a great movie, but it explores a time traveler changing the timeline and dealing with the repercussions on himself.

  68. @zc5413 says:

Sunshine is one of the best movies ever made in the time period on this planet on outer space. The pacing of the movie is sooooo well done with impeccable psychological action. Wow sunshine is sooo under rated.

  69. Primer was actually very good!

  70. Source code was awesome! I’m shocked you said meh. Check out Fortress with Christopher Lambert.

  71. @GLBXA says:

Too vague descriptions to make me look. Seen some of them already, but not enough info to get me interested

  72. @K4HLER says:

High recommend "The Fountain". Top tier list!

  73. @Gamu13 says:

Enemy Mine (1985) with Dennis Quaid is a super hidden gem also 😉

  74. Where is Tank Girl?????!!!!

  75. Moon an Umbrella Academy seem related ?

  76. Primer is a top class movie, loved it

  77. i thought you where black

  78. WELL DONE. Thanx. At 73, after decades of reading, writing, viewing and listening full time, I am unlikely to see these movies. Excellent selection, but PLEASE DO A VERSION WITH SPOILERS. Note that Idiocracy was ripped off from CM Kornbluth's short story and eponymous collection, "The Marching Morons." With Fred Pohl he wrote "The Space Merchants", a future allegory paralleling Art Miller's "The Crucible"…witch trials now by 'legal economic slave' advert corps running 14 billion with mostly LONG SS numbers tattooed om arms, "Consies", conservationists, read commies, now migrants, scapegoated for all. Try "Rebirth", John Wyndham, also. Lines taken into Jefferson Airplane's 'Crown of Creation' song, and album.

  79. This list is so perfect for me… Except Under the Skin. Too many of the scenes were overly surreal and artsy for me. I'd put 2018 Freaks right up there at #2 instead.

  80. @willsta21 says:

For a guy who just watches and lists movies he likes your doing well for yourself.

  81. @willsta21 says:

Damn it Jim I’m Judge dread now!

  82. Upside Down (2012) Deserves to be on this list.

  83. Sunshine is the best!!

  84. @KipIngram says:

I COULD NOT BELIEVE how BAD The Fountain was. So, I'm still watching, but you've now sown doubts. At least you have Primer.

  85. @ACTopo says:

Im biased but this is one of my fav lists. Sci fi around these themes have a fun cerebral feel not found in most modern sci fi films.

Next I just need a list of underground sci fi films like UnderWorld and Blade except obvi those are the only two I can think of… there is probably a bunch others around this theme. I suppose HellBoy kinda creates a sci-fi underworld of sorts. Makes me think of the underworld in the TimeMachine films based on the Novels. That type of underworld epic.

  86. Upload, u gave too much info tho

  87. Great video, loved seeing "Timecrimes" included, I've recommended it to many. Also, thanks for NOT including fantasy movies as Sci-Fi, i.e. Star Wars garbage. Let's put science back in Sci-Fi!!!

  88. "a boy and his dog", although I don't know if it is underrated.

  89. @patcoston says:

5:14 Idiocracy: He wasn't below average. He was exactly average. That's why they picked him.

  90. Moon is an excellent film

  91. sylwester stalone have best face/lips for judge dred ;p
