More About “Through Fire She Calls”:
In the late days of WWI, a lone doughboy longs for his wife and home but there is no escape in sight from the war torn French countryside. His salvation depends on the choice he makes to save the life of a mysterious P.O.W. from certain death. This ultimate sacrifice is the key to finding his way back home.

This film is inspired and dedicated to the director’s great uncle, Private George A. Kontogiannis, Company B, 318th Infantry, 80th Division, who was killed in action during the Great War in 1918.

  1. loved the creapy vibe

  2. Well this was a strange one but keep them coming love the channel

  3. and he spent the rest of his life in jail for desertion…

  4. Throwback Thursday? Seems familiar.

  5. It was shown that he pulled the trigger at the beginning and would have made a more disturbing vibe if that's what happened. Like so many of us who have come back from combat only to have our lives fall apart because we can't get out of our own head, then, better; before it's all just gone. Just as if we killed it.

  6. Not to be rude but I literally skimmed the whole thing and was glad I did.

  7. It is not clear what happened. The 'alien' has a pyramid in its hand, then the human experiences being (home with his loved one)…..is the human hallucinating? Is he really there? Is 'there' a place in the real world? Too many dangling plot threads for it to be a satisfying film.

  8. His dream was gifted, for the life he saved.

  9. Voldemort goes metal

  10. I liked the story as such, but the flickering picture made it difficult to watch at times

  11. Oh those evil germans lol

  12. A masterpiece. Thank you.

  13. @KmonCentz says:

So he shot his wife. Then he shoots a German who wants the alien pyramid so he can go back to not shoot his wife too? Then some other Germans show up cuz they hear about the "get ur murdered wife back" artifact, but get shot themselves. Soooo… a lot of "wife 187" during WW1 then??

  14. The YT thumbnail gave a lot away. Really interesting story.

  15. Wow that was very good

  16. EXCELLENT!

  17. My Words , thank you .

  18. A truly artistic piece of work! ❤

  19. @nsjx says:

a Fascinating fantasy. you had me locked into it. love the way if was shot AND the way the soundtrack is built in suffocating but dreamlike fashion. the acting was fab. the 'alien' seemed visibly compassionate when presenting the artifact. did the german officer force this being to locate this prism for some other reason? it appears he was already headingvto justcthis spot to locate something (by force). did this one man save more than he knows? his greatest wish answered,…to just be home. had this artifact fallen into the wrong hands,…well… Nice one! makes us think,…What if. Thx

  20. Gotta say, I am confused by the opening scene of him shooting her. Is this the past? If so, it makes little sense. Future PTSD self? If so, he was having visions of what he was going to do?

  21. Global war, something humankind should not repeat again

  22. Two weeks later he was court marshalled as a deserter and died by firing squad.

  23. So, I'm going to take this as a happy ending, with many questions, but still happy nonetheless. That's sci-fi for ya.

  24. I guess the alien just sent him back in time to make things right

  25. Did he send him back in time or grant his biggest desire?

  26. @kentwhoo says:

    Beautiful.

  27. I say the alien time traveler gave him a wish as thanks for saving it's life. It used the crystal to time change anything past or give him what he deepest wish or a life for saving it's life. The soldier was given his mistake erased killing an innocent woman or his girlfriend wife.

  28. @fjdarling says:

I don't think the solider was time traveling. I believe the Alien just sent him to where his thoughts were. Home. Anyway, good Science Fiction.

  29. Moonless marks her terriotory .

  30. I loved it. The alien sent him home for helping him.
That's how I took it anyway.

  31. Science Fiction devotee since I was 6. Now I am 71. OK?… The best DUST I have ever seen, and I've seen most. Thank you… Hooorahhh!!!

  32. They both went home
A masterpiece in miniature, l am left weeping

  33. Flawless story. Flawless camera work. Flawless acting. Flawless sound design. Flawless editing. It’s perfect!

  34. @flyyynt says:

Nothing against all the obvious production talent that went into making this film, but a story shouldn't be this difficult to understand. I think it's because it wasn't made clearer what the man wanted and how it related to the woman.

I don't mean it has to be spelled out and I shouldn't have to read it in the description info – but after reading it I would say the man killing her in his dream makes no sense and was apparently done just to intrigue the viewer into continuing to watch.

IMO, intrigue has become the enemy of the modern movie story because it's a lot easier to add intrigue instead of writing a good story that naturally hooks the viewer.

  35. Great story, great imagery

  36. I say well done. The B&W was so clear and the suspense was present from the very first moment to the very end. The language of the soldiers and look of the lead made me think this was made by someone in Russia or Ukraine or in that area. But where ever it was made and by whom, this was really good. Everything made sense, no silly physics happening, just top notch all around. I kind of hoped the alien's eyes would sort of start to turn iridescent or something. Or open and be in color somehow. I was entertained for 8:36! 🙂

  37. Hey! I really love the energy you bring!

  38. Meh. Congratulations on executing a short film, but I wouldn't want to re-watch or recommend it.

  39. @marellori says:

He went to the After live

  40. that was awesome!!!

  41. Its a good start but the drama comes from having to telegraph your military branch & inform them where you were, & where you currently are corresponding with them from; then spend the next two years repeating the account till you get institutionalized, where you get treatments & beaten-mercilessly to stop you recounting what happened.

  42. Amongst the usual crowd of unimaginative AI, zombie and post-apocalyptic shorts this really stands out. Very well done!

  43. some movies should STAY an idea

  44. @lreid1457 says:

    That was a kind gesture.

  45. What a strange and wonderful story. Thank you for telling it.

  46. @sniddley says:

Magnificent film, I had to watch it over and over, thank you.

  47. It was a good story, but I couldn't get over the modern scope and wrapping of the weapon.

  48. He'll have some explaining to do 😛

  49. Dang WTF over , mmmmmmmmmmmmmm a sniper without spotter no P.I.D WW1 . Rules of engagement develop afterwards , awesomeness as far as content . Keep it up

  50. Hated the anachronisms…
    Radio didn't exist in 1914-18.
Nor did british snipers until late in the war.

  51. Cinematography & lighting was amazing.

  52. @marek5823 says:

Hit, sunk, and besides, whenever I have time, I come back…

  53. Where is the science? Where?
    I see only fantasy.

  54. Well done – many thanks. The presence of that AM radio suggest it's at least 1930. IF you wanted to portray the man getting beamed contemporaneously home, with that same lovely ambience, you might want to substitute a Victrola to keep it in the 1910's. Still -brilliant mini-plot! Best regards. DKB

  55. Beautiful, poignant story. Well acted, engaging. Sorry to be a stickler, though. KDKA Pittsburgh was the worlds first commercial radio broadcast in 1920. Two years after the war ended.

  56. No more killing stories, please.

  57. @Nailnuke says:

You can only judge something by the effect it has on you. This short gripped me from start to finish.

  58. @stosh2112 says:

    These shorts are great

  59. Radios did not come into homes until the 1920s. The radio shown was from a much later period since is far to small to house the needed vacuum tubes of early radios.

  60. Very interesting storyline and amazing how it kept one's interest all the way from beginning to end. Very tense drama and Satisfying ending. Definitely one of the better short films I've seen for a while.

  61. Later shot for desertion

  62. @Failte630 says:

Beautiful story. Very well told. Keep making films. You are good at it.
    PS
(I hope he didn’t get into trouble for deserting!)

  63. Nazis sure make a lot of noise

  64. can i have those 8 minutes back please

  65. I assume the next episode is him getting short for desertion.

  66. @broderp says:

Don't get it. Guess I prefer straight forward without all the symbolism.

  67. So much back story and interpretation here, but ultimately a good story about an alien perhaps on Earth returning to pick something up left behind, maybe something that is part of their species observational science apparatus. Perhaps their species focuses on non-interference and continually learns from other species. The soldier is rewarded for his demonstration of protecting something evidently defenceless even if it means killing something else that has a gun in it's hand. It kind of buys into the notion that ultimately the vast majority of soldiers would give anything to be doing something else. This soldier we assume gets that wish.

  68. Interesting.

  69. The dream at the beginning came from the prism, because there was the dream of the lady then a brief shot of the prism in the alien's hand, then the soldier wakes up. The message of the dream was that if you shoot the guy in the rubber mask, what you did in the dream will be what you do to me.
The soldier was about to shoot the masked alien but then he was reminded of the dream, again through or by the prism because there was again a brief shot of the prism. With the dream in mind he was extra cautious about pulling the trigger.
By the end he had not killed but likely saved the alien. So the soldier gets another message, a vision of reunification with the lady. This message was from gratitude, saying this is what you did for me.
There's lots more subtleties in there but I believe the above comes close. Communication through empathy.
Poetic title, too. How can one not watch it with a title like that?

  70. Muy bonita historia en un corto,es muy interesante y original y de ciencia ficciòn por lo que nos plantea, me ha gustado mucho❤❤
