Earth Star Voyager Full SCI-FI movie from 1988

This is my VHS-Rip of Earth Star Voyager a science fiction television movie from 1988.

The movieplot : a space mission to find another planet suitable for colonization. Duncan Regehr and Brian McNamara star. Directed by James Goldstone, who steered the pilot episode for the Star Trek TV series.

In the year 2082, the Earth deep-space exploration vessel, Vanguard Explorer, has suffered heavy damage, due to the efforts of Captain Jacob ‘Jake’ Brown trying to keep his ship out of the hands of mutineers led by his second-in-command, Vance Arthur. Feigning compliance, Jake attacks Vance and knocks him senseless long enough for him to get to an escape pod and launch into space. However, the cause of the damage on board the Vanguard Explorer is unknown.

  1. I was 22 when this this came out, but been in stasis since then until a few minutes ago? What year is this? Do we have flying cars yet?

  2. Can someone do this AI upscale?

  3. I wish that there was another life-sustainable planet. All of the lunacy could have one-way tickets. But space is a lie.

25 yr anniversary…still just a fun flick to watch.

  5. Hi. THANK YOU for uploading this. I have never seen this scifi movie, and it is pretty Amazing for its time.

  6. When they catch up with the radio waves from 20th century Earth, it would've been epic for us today if, they had also heard: All Along The Watchtower. So Say We All! 😀

  7. This came before the Borg were introduced in Star Trek: TNG
    Cool

  10. I haven't seen this till now. What a great show!! Should have been a series!

  11. Que pena que no tenga subtitulos en castellano.

  12. I remember seeing this movie. I must have been about 25 years old. That's been almost 40 years ago.

  13. Plexiglass really made these sci-fi movies awesome!

  14. 18:04 "3 libraries?" So google is not part of the ship.

  15. Now!! This is interesting!! This was the era of Dune, Star Wars, Star Trek Next Generations and Tron…time frame. How. Did I miss this?

  16. This might be useful as a training tool for aspiring psychobabblers, Psychobabble is the primary ingredient in this movie, not science and exploration.

  17. This was good. I'm surprised they didn't make this into a televisoin series like they did with Battlestar Gallactica. Thanks for posting.

The Borg were introduced on syndicated television on May 8, 1989, in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Q Who", and rose to further prominence in the two-part cliffhanger "Best of Both Worlds, Part I", which aired on June 18, 1990, with the sequel airing on September 24, 1990.But here it seems the precursor to the Borg.

  19. In 1988 they thought to save the specie they needed a team of white people? I mean, not 1888! 1988?

  20. I had a crush on every one of those cuties! Ok..i know!!!!

  21. @bobby9195 says:

    Not bad lol

  22. Only whites?

  23. This must have been a Canadian movie. I don’t remember ever seeing this in the US in the late 80s. At least not in the southern US.

  24. I hate to tell all of you people out there, this was televised by Disney when the program was available to the public, not transmitted by pay T.V. summer 1987

  25. Everything about this makes Star Trek look even better than it was. The cast, the plot, the spaceship, the fights etc all amateur tosh.

  26. I remember seeing this in the late 80s at age 11 or 12 and thought it's a good sci-fi that was overlooked by the public/critics.

  27. @Trai58 says:

This the oringall of the borg

  28. I remember seeing this movie as a teen, sorry to go against the grain here but it was beyond boring compared to other sci fi movies of the time. Its more of a drama with lots of useless talking than action base.

  29. I was 2 years old when this came out,its a good film.

  30. wdf only 480p dis is so bad :S

  31. A VERY GOOD FILM BUT 1 THING I WAS TAUGHT WAS NEVER TALK WHITH YOU MOUTH FULL BAD MANNERS BACK IN MY DAY

  32. I haven’t seen this since I was 10.

  33. Our tastes in visual entertainment have changed greatly since 1988 as well as our standards for technological gizmos to look and seem convincing and not be distractingly silly. To even market it and/or stream it on Disney Plus they'd have to make it UHD standard for today's audience and invest a lot of $ into updating the CGI and the sound and whatnot. Why do that when there are better SciFi properties out there to exploit? If you do a space thing and you're Disney, it had better have all sorts of tie-ins and possibilities for the Disney Parks, or it's wasted investment. And if they tried to do it and make it into some sort of attraction, it would only be a weak competitor to Star Wars, and what is the point of that?

And imagine how dated all this looks now…hairstyles and so forth. Who but adults who watched it as kids would be interested in stuff like that? A sufficiently large audience is just not there. The ROI is just not there. Enjoy it here on YouTube.

  34. I remember this movie!! How did I not find it sooner!!

  35. I vaguely remembered this as Disney trying to do an original series.

The one line that I did remember was "do you want a laser that might work or a well-aimed rock!"

  37. @Tracyusa says:

The great thing about space Travelers once you hit the speed, that's your maximum. You can turn off the engine and travel for free. For millions of years, if you want as long as you don't get into a gravitational pull, you will forever go straight with the engines off.

  38. Enterprise e was the best fighting ship

  39. It's Dracula/Zorro!

  40. @daveb6214 says:

Wish they had done a follow on , or now do one

  41. @daveb6214 says:

25 and i remember my friends younger brother going on about this film , so we watched it with him and me and his big brother were impressed. Wish those times were here again, we lost my friend in 94 , now I'm his big brother.

  42. On peut voir en français

  43. @rodge9763 says:

The OTZ was a concept that has stayed with me for decades.

  44. I supose it wont harm if sci-fi could be comprhensable. Just like my english…

  45. Thoroughly enjoyed this!

  46. I was a little kid watching this with my father. I’m so glad this was on YouTube. I am having such a memory lane moment. Wish my dad was still here. Thanks for having it here.

  47. The young captain reminds me of a Nirvana era Dave Grohl !!

  48. @xyz.ijk. says:

I missed this in 1988. Thank you for providing it here!

  49. I saw this as a kid on satellite tv , it was a mix of Star Trek and Battlestar. I did not make it past pilot. Here is why, it was more child fantasy than drama tv..

  50. Wasn't it a series?
I remember that I awaited it at Saturday mornings in Poland at begining of the 1990's…
    BTW awesome detailed model

  51. I want to make a movie like this, but today. With 80's future tech, 80's projected future problems, and 80's political and social tropes being explored.

  52. great film why they bring back Diseny presents on cbc.

  53. 1:15:29 The large sphere in the background is the Vancouver Science World.

  54. So , there is some knowledge of biology .
I was 5 years into my marriage when this movie was broadcast . Walt Disney . Wonderful world of color . There is so much of this movie that could still happen today . But today space exploration seems to have stopped by humans . Now we send robots to do the exploration .

  55. This movie is starting to washout from being played so much . At this viewing , it is 2024 .

  56. Thank you sir .
This isn’t Star Trek or Star Wars , but it’s really nice someone took the time to save it .

  58. Every decision they make is the dumbest thing possible. Especially the "genius" kid, he's the worst of them all. And how are the going off course all the time when they are supposed to be following the track, as per their explanation of their deep space travel?

  59. One of my favorites ever made! Thank you for recording this and uploading it to YouTube!

  60. grew up on disney sunday night movies. this was one of my favs. converted my vhs copy of this to digital years ago along with some others.

2:56:11 Does anyone know who they used as the model for the "real" (human) Priscilla?

  63. This feels like it was a made for TV project. It would likely be called a mini series these days. Some aspects were a little predictable but not bad overall.

  64. I was 17 when this came out, a burgeoning computer scientist, and like the computer scientist on the show also crushing hard on the Luz Sansone character. I also dreamed of working for NASA and loved that this had people my age as main characters.

I have tried for years to remember the name of this to share this with my wife and kids but I’m not sure they (or even I) would appreciate it as much now given how dated some of it looks even though it still has a fairly novel concept.

Thank you so much for sharing, it is different from what I remembered and part of what had me stymied in my search is I thought Luz was played by Meredith Salenger also of Disney fame.

  65. When I was a kid there was one big aspect of this movie that I never understood, and I have quite literally watched this 100 times. I used to let it run in the background while I worked on my homework or cleaned my bedroom. Initially, when Priscilla brings up the individual OTZ ships, it seems like she is just bringing them up through the database of the log from Captain Brown's ship. It doesn't seem to suggest that the ships are actually in front of them at the time. When do the ships on the screen go from being something that Priscilla is finding through the record and the logs of what she was given from the other ship, and become actual ships that are in front of them and they need to destroy?

  71. @dougc190 says:

I was always mad when they left Vanguard Explorer behind

  72. My son is older than I was when I first watched this………..
Truly this has aged like a fine wine. Almost 40 years on and I still think this is one of the most accurate assessments of where humanity may go. No "Deus Ex Machina", no unrealistic scientific jump, just progression.
I used to think that Schell was played by Robert Duncan (Chakotay, ST-Voyager) and then when I found out he wasn't I felt pretty racist. Re-watching it, given time and make-up, I don' feel bad at all as they really do look a lot alike.

  73. OMG so cool to find this here, blew my mind as a kid, superb story, performances. (and it's cute) Was always hoping it would become a series- but maybe it's better it stayed a gem like this -Thanks so much for posting

  74. Thanks for posting this.

  75. @disteve says:

I was an extra in this movie. It was a lot of fun. I even talked to Brian and Duncan a few times. I can be seen at 6:32 back right looking up. Wow so many years ago!

  76. They could make this today as a streaming show, and it could be so good

  77. I have many memories of watching this movie throughout the 90's as my family recorded it on VCR. My favorite lines were always "To the death, Jacob Brown" and "Yes, no, maybe… none of your business." This movie was the reason I love the name Vance so much.

  78. Navigator: Bubba .. Age: 2

  79. Dont bother garbage

  80. Im a bit confused bc i thought everyone was told it would take decades to build more parts of the ship, but then afterwards they get right on it

  81. There was a few good movies and shows made in the 80's, unfortunately this wasn't one of those!
I didn't even make it five minutes in. Not really surprised because this was Disney. They couldn't even spring for a believable excape pod! No they used 50 gallon drums split in half! At least Battle star Glaticta was more believable, and that was made in the 70's!
Glad i dodged being forced to sit through this in the 80's, definitely thankful for that!
It was crappy shows like this that I didn't own a TV in the 90's!

  82. @mtjoy747 says:

LOL – nice to know our "blade runner" future of climate change and pollution will have "ambulance at the bottom of the cliff" breathers

  83. 2 minutes in and that escape pod looked a bit flimsy.
