This is the perfect way Ariel should have been for The Little Mermaid live-action movie. This is the perfect version of Ariel that they should have added for The Little Mermaid live-action movie. I love Ariel as a mermaid with red hair, blue eyes, and white skin, and that's the way they should have kept her for The Little Mermaid live-action movie. They should have never changed Ariel into a black mermaid at all because it makes no sense for her to be a black mermaid. They should have kept Ariel with red hair, blue eyes, and white skin for The Little Mermaid live-action movie. When Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel, I totally complained about it because I didn't like Halle Bailey as Ariel at first, but now I'm okay with it. But it really would have been way better and perfect if they had just hired a white actress with red hair, blue eyes, and white skin to play Ariel because that's the way I love Ariel with red hair, blue eyes, and white skin.

Honestly, this feels very racist. Not because masses of people prefer to have an EXACT replica of the original film in live action but because our society is so against the royal identification of a black woman that they will go to any lengths to dismiss black women as a whole.
Halle Bailey was casted out of 400 women, if there was a white woman more suitable for the job she would have been chosen. Obviously, Disney doesn’t play about their bottom line so if they thought this many people would take issue with their selection of Aerial they might have considered a different actress. But again… NO ONE could compete with the standard Halle set!
So instead of embracing the phenomenon that is Halle Bailey you’d rather create white washed mediums and superimpose them over her vocals and acrobatics…. Idk?! It screams RACISSTTTTTTT! Not to mention this looks nothing like the original Aerial because Jodi Benson doesn’t resemble an Asian woman in the least bit! And the original Princess was crafted after Jodi Benson (the original voice). Halle looks more like Aerial than this trash AI. if it makes you happy to be filled with such loathing for other races go right ahead… but it might behoove you to ask yourselves “why is the color of aerial’s skin and the texture of aerial’s hair so important to me?”
“Why didn’t I go see the live action Little Mermaid in theaters if I love the original so much?” And be honest with yourself. If you hate the film cool but to dismiss the grandeur of Halle’s performance simply because she’s not what YOU would have imagined says more about you than it does about the film.
I get it— we’ve seen caucasians as the “demonstration” of royalty but they’re not the only world leaders. There are African princesses and Spanish princesses and Asian Princesses so Aerial could have been any skin color. It’s not about the looks but the heart within. That is what made aerial so beautiful! Not her red hair or blue eyes but her majestic grace and brave spirit.
The live action wasn’t perfect by any means… but the errors in this film were not due to race but rather creative direction.

Halle looks really nice and has a very fitting, gentle attitude and voice. Unfortunately, they did a horrible job with her hair and the lighting in general, she's supposed to be "red", but all I see is a woman with hair the same color of her skin, and it all feels flat and dull. They should have gone the full fiery red path. If a black woman dyes her hair, why would she dye it brown like her skin?? I never saw a black woman with brown hair, it just doesn't look good.
