Hey Alyfio and others, I know there’s been some weirdness lately with my stamps disappearing from the comments for a while, and I thank you for making sure they remain useful to people. I think I may have it fixed now, and as a test I’d like to request a 24-hour grace period before reposting these stamps, so our posts don’t compete. If this isn’t near the top by then, by all means repost. Thank you.
Any moments I missed? Feel free to post them here. Is it Thursday yet?
1:48:48 my pet peeve about Caleb is the over protectiveness. It is a game and I wish more of the players would take more risks but sometimes I think Liam pushes them not to.
As someone who is new to critical role and decided to start from the second campaign I heard that forjd and jesters romance was built well and they didn’t have moments in the campaign but from what I can see there are definitely great small moments.
The monk picking the Sentinel feat instead of Tavern Brawler is crazy
here watching C2 for the first time bc bells hells got boring af after 80 so episodes
I dont understand the issue… the sword is not 8ft long. It can fit in the 8 cubic foot space no problem
The grammad police in me keeps reeling when they call manacles MANT-acles
2:46:44 Tell the truth!!!!!
1:47:09
wow sam has such a lovely voice! 1:55:45
2:19:30
2:56:25 What if the Gentleman was just putting the blame on the dead guy because that way nobody would look for the real perpetrator. Even if had he trusted the Mighty Nein, he doesn't need them to know who really leaked the info, and information that they don't have can't be tortured out of them.
1:26:00 I freakin love the Beau and Caleb dynamic. I find they have like a brother sister friendship and I’m really excited to see how this evolves in the campaign.
travis getting excited and pounding the table about his own backstory is so funny
I would have called shenanigans on Matt saying that sword wouldn’t fit in the haversack as well as the idea that they would need to remove items in the first place as 8ft by 8ft by 8ft is quite a lot of space especially when items presumably aren’t subject to gravity or any usual arrangement limitations. Sure he said its like an anime blade but even Guts, the prime giant anime blade guy himself, only has a sword estimated to be 6ft long and the bag would have an additional 2ft and none of the other dimensions of the sword are significant so you should be able to fit a whole armory worth of them if you wanted excluding the weight factor which would eventually max out obviously. If Guts sword is 6ft by 1ft by 3in then just one row of them would be 32 swords and still have a 7x8x8 plus 2x1x8 left in the space.
I also get what Liam is doing with the whole “I can’t lift that” stuff but a great sword is only 6lbs so even if it was 4x the norm 24lbs is nothing realistically and even going by game stats he has a carrying capacity of 150lbs. at a 10 STR.
Yeah I am nit picking a bit but the not fitting in the bag thing seemed like a non issue.
2:38:05
Watch how Travis reacts to 'groggy'
1:02:12 "A cask of Ammontiado" Underrated line. Love it.
the episode where fjord turns into sean connery and jester turns into borat
Can't wai for them to realize that Nott has an infinite amount of flammable material
Why do I always picture The Gentleman as a sweaty blue Demon King Debura?
Not gonna lie, the outtro of Sam's "historical" commercial made me feel severely nostalgic haha
Travis starting to have a dream in campaign 2: oh no, oh god, oh no…
Travis, campaign 3: I wanna be ruidus born, I’d be dreaming every fuckin night
watching this campaign in 2024 , can’t wait for for campaign 4 tho
I looove Travis' reactions every time Matt describes Fjords dreams. Must be so rewarding as a DM, to get that kinda feedback from your players.
I think the meta gaming pigeon needs a name. Darius, perhaps?
Yasha only gains a point of exhaustion because she had done Back Day the day before and the DOMs kicked in.
I love that the group gets sooooo interested and excited whenever there's a hint of backstory of others is mentioned.
Sam getting too excited when Jester wanted to reveal "her secrets" to the entity and very disappointed in that joke
Travis practically jumping when he learns what his "entity" can grant him
Almost everyone paying attention to Sam/Nott when she spends an hour to herself (Laura even broke her conversation with Tal with a shush to listen to Sam)
Travis jumping to get his pencil to write down a place Sam mentioned.
Almost everyone being amazed that Nott put almost everything on her in the package to be sent to someone. (Laura's expression when she realized Sam was listing everything in his inventory was priceless)
Everyone's reaction to Caleb's dialogue to his parents
Travis being pumped that Beau got to do monk shit.
Everyone expecting Yasha to find something from her backstory when she was terrorizing the town criers.
Sam and Laura are back sitting together!!! As it should be for us to enjoy their chaos! 😀
Jester would take the hand of Vecna and use it as a ring holder
I think the target was the fact that you are full scale green with the teeth accompanying that, but that was a very good overall reaction to personal insecurity. Poor boy
He could take it physically. He was naturally dense and brawny, but the words in the cheering pub deeper than that, and he couldn’t handle it emotionally to the point that he basically mutilated his teeth some thing naturally a part of him. I feel like the target was more so the fact that he was green, in tandem with his teeth, but he probably felt like his teeth were the only thing he could change
The trait is simply a trait some thing intrinsically about you that you cannot change and does not need to change. The target was probably the green skin in tandem with the teeth. Physically, and naturally Brony, but not able to take the emotional brunt of it all. Teeth made biologically go along with the more capable end hardy nature of orca but they do not have to be or represent a rougher side. They’re just you, who you are. It seems more so of what other people think and impose onto certain traits, and that that’s been internalized his task or simply his task and they should be allowed to be let be. Not a rough trait but simply a trait but racist and prejudiced people will always point at what makes you different to inform you and build you up in their heads instead if letting you stand as an individual. Teeth are teeth.. not food
If you want to, you’d look good that way as well! you look good this way, you would look good that way! [ cosigned ] Suggesting his friends let him know when he’s absentmindedly chipping away at himself, almost mutilating, a part of who he is. Building himself back around these people who don’t care and will let be. Accepting him as he was.
Oddly a very real portrayal of actual racial traits, and how others can make one feel about them. Liking to see themselves differently, based on some scale that was imposed on them. Defining normalcy and a default and making you feel like your not apart of that until those traits that are not your own become synonymous with better or how you’d like to see yourself. Changing who you are and should be by the standards of others. Poor boy, protect fjord!!
Already liked fjord thematically with wth icy armor and the salty briny tendrils of blue energy and sightless water and a jagged sword. A world of directionless sea and water. Even the accent and his personality. Weirdly honest, blunt, funny, and a knack for luck. His plot has such a niche intrigue but the bit about his horns and internalized distaste for a feature of his race, a part of who he is as a person. It basically has me on a rant. I’m still thinking about that badass and honest gambling scene. I love how Travis plays him and jester too.
27:45 first "hint" at Caleb and his secrets
4:00:07 Liam being surprised by his friends knowing the same things as him (musical wise) will forever be my favorite.
I don't think Matthew understands how much space 8 cubic feet is lol a few tools, 1 longsword, and a couple small vases, and a 2 cubic ft box aren't enough to keep a 6ft sword out of a magical pocket plane that's 8 cubic feet. If it doesn't work like a bag of holding then you'd have to climb into it essentially to grab things from the bottom of an 8ft space like it's Madeye's chest. He's definitely thinking 2 dimensional here lol 1:37:19
There's no way the great sword wouldn't fit in an eight cubic feet space wth
Matt buffering with jester hijinks was awesome
80's skit <3
Hot take: jester and caleb would be a cuter couple than jester and fjord.
Every time I rewatch C2 I'm amazed at how insufferable Molly was. At least I only have ten more episodes.
Rewatching campaign 2 after caught up on 3
Didn't realise Taliesin's meta gaming was unique to Ashton
very glad I stuck around until the end to find out that Taliesin owns multiple pairs of lederhosen and refers to one as his "good pair"
Even the most boring topics are made interesting!
GREASE THE GOBLIN
Okay; Im really impressed with Sam (Nott) 's 3-dimensional chess moves every now and then! The flask of Gentleman's saliva subtle threat was chef's kiss and the 'Nott as a mother figure' is really quite poignant.
Do they ever get the flask?
Down Down Down by the river
Lol
"WOT IS GREEK"
1. OMG FLANDO'S HERE!
2. I really hate that social interactions in D&D are governed by just rolling deception vs insight.
Never ceases to amaze me how devastated they are at low initiative rolls. Sometimes it's a lot better to go after the baddie. Especially as a healer.
3rd watch through, and Beau continues to suck huge ass. Bad character, portrayed even worse
I see the gentle man eating fish for breakfast
I just wanted to say that tonight was the first night I actually played D&D. Used DnD Beyond and it was fabulous! Our campaign is on Tuesday though, so is it Tuesday yet?
Watching this in 2024…long road to catching up lol…anyhoo, does anyone else see similarities/inspiration in Baldur's Gate 3?
1:40:59 That's stupid diagonally the 8 foot bag is 16 feet. That sword would easily fit. When they bought it the store owner said it was a 8 foot cube. It bacis geometry.
Travis, the charisma caster, the faceman. Keeping his mouth shut the best he has learned, trying to avoid him being the one to answer: "Was that all that you found".
Just figured out who jester may be based on….Dan Akroyd and Steve Martin in SNL….the Wild and Crazy guys.
i did NOT have fjord deepthroating a sword on my bingo card
01:30:46
28/06/24
"It's 8 cubic square feet!"
Never change.
Still caching up on episodes, so many years later, dnd beyond is still not great at finding your stats, info, etc. The good old character sheets still wins. They all are constantly struggling for episodes to find basic information on their characters through the app.
Just like we are in 2024, the export to pdf function is still very broken, if your modifiers get greater than 10, then it only shows 1, amongst other various bugs.
But hey, makes character creation and leveling up sooo much easier, haha.
Harvest
October 2024: OBVIOUSLY we know they are all amazing voice actors and they regularly do voices all game long, but I love seeing them impressed by and/or cackling from each other's talent. The 80s DnD Beyond Ad was exactly that.
Just recently gotten into older SNL, and I finally got the Hans and Franz reference.
Personal Timestamps:
“GAG ME WITH A SPOON MRS. HENDERSON”
HEEEY FLANDOS HERE FINALLY
Laura losing the inventory made me think that, somewhere in Vasselheim, within a library by the side of a zombie titan, Grog's bag of holding is still holding the troll dick from a home session probably a decade ago
why do I feel like they didn't needed to lie to the gentleman? His business is smuggling, his people needs to know how to be quick and quiet, not to kill mages. A sword that big wouldn't be useful for his guards at the bar nor to his rogues here and there. Logically, the loot he'd let them keep was the sword, so lying to him was a very Vox Machina moment. This is something I hope Matt would've talked with the cast afterwards to make them think better because these moments are so painful to watch, like seeing someone else's toddler grabbing a handful of dirt at the park and all you can do is watch the parents making tiktoks
I am just here to hear about Pillars of Eternity
"Well it's a little late because I already took mine…." idrn
Matt is great! "Ya and I'm touched by the sun every morning"
3:11:31 To me that raven is Vax & the Matron having a good laugh over that amd pure enjoyment over tbat young lady's Fate Touched thread if anyone is a life changer its Ms. LaVorre. Its not like the Lady of Fate can't enjoy what becomes a quite powerful, beautifully kind, wonderful, meningful life. I always felt like after Vaxy joined her, her humanity & her sense of humor came back.
why in the world would they back up river
I would not be able to play with Laura or people like her. There's a reason why characters are given specific info for their actions. It's up to them if they want to share the info or not.
Caleb getting flustered with jester is Liam feeling unnerved with his "sister" Laura in this conversation
Talesin always meta games it’s kinda crazy. Like the nott gold thing unless he said he was looking through the tiny hole “which Caleb already kind of said he was and I doubt there’s space for 2) but he also did that with nott when they caught him stealing the other episode. Always wants to play the good guy lol
Nott keeping the vial the guy drank from is next level high intelligence move honestly
3:31:36 ugh! That’s like trading in your $60 Xbox game and they only give you $5 for it and you flip through the clearance bin hoping you find something half decent.
Again. With all the respect…
All this therapeutic bullshit from Sam (which continues and grows even more unbearable in C3) is really quite disturbing and IMHO not really sticks with a character.
Is it a sort of introjection? Insite check?
It actually frustrates me every time they prevent Liam from reading an item while constantly asking what it does. Like, in character it's cute and fun, but as a player I do actually need to read this thing is a thing he says like every third episode it feels like
Larian really stole everything from this campaign for Baldurs gate 3. Licking the Spider, consuming Magic items, aasimar muscle mommy, Dice shaped mysterious item!
2:50:00 Sam’s 4D checkmates are my favourite!
Travis heals laura: oscar?! Taliesin heals laura: molly?! XD
